I've been traveling to Costa Rica for almost a decade -- the country became my second home in 2015 when I bought a small casita deep in the rainforest. My humble house served as a rental project that would bring in just enough money to pay for my plane tickets to return to Costa Rica. In each visit, I learned more about the country and as my interest in fly fishing grew, I learned about the 50+ species of fish that one can catch on the fly in Costa Rica. One of those species, arguably the most notorious, is The Silver King -- Atlantic Tarpon. 

Fishing during the spawn is a topic that sparks debate among anglers, especially when it comes to understanding the difference between fishing to spawning trout and char versus simply fishing during the spawn. The former, targeting fish actively on their redds, is generally frowned upon because it can disrupt vital reproductive behaviors. Anglers who cast over active redds may inadvertently pull fish away from their nests or mates, which could damage the fish population in certain areas.

The proposed fur ban in Denver has stirred up quite a bit of concern, especially among those who feel it will disrupt the city's deep ties to Western heritage. If passed, the ordinance would outlaw the manufacture, sale, and trade of animal fur products, including popular fly patterns like the Elk Hair Caddis, Stimulator, Muddler Minnow, Double Dungeon, and Goddard Caddis, per the Denver Post. Additionally, iconic beaver fur hats, a symbol of Western heritage, would also be banned.
