Steps by Step Guide: Fly Tying for Beginners The Krystal Flash Emerger

Featuring : AboutTrout

This fly is perfect for prolific Midge hatches or when fish are suspended in the middle of the water column intercepting Midge pupa. It's quick, easy to tie, and highly effective. Let's dive right into it!

Materials Needed:

  • Lightning Strike SE7 size 24 hook

  • Semperfly Nano silk thread in black (18/0)

  • Black super fine dubbing

  • Crystal Flash (black)

Step 1: Set Up

Place a lightning strike SE7 size 24 hook in the vise. Use semperfly Nano silk in black to tie the fly.

Step 2: Start Thread

Begin by wrapping the thread half an eye length behind the hook eye. Wrap down the hook shank until just before it starts to bend.

Step 3: Build Thorax

Select black dubbing, preferably super fine, and create a tight dubbing noodle. Wrap the dubbing tightly to form a thorax, stopping just at the eye of the hook.

Step 4: Add Crystal Flash

Cut a strand of Crystal Flash and double it over. Secure the Crystal Flash with two turns of thread, pulling it back gently before wrapping forward. Repeat this process with a total of four strands.

Step 5: Whip Finish

Perform a whip finish with three turns of thread, ensuring it holds securely. Trim any excess thread.

Step 6: Trim Flash

Using scissors, trim the Crystal Flash strands behind the dubbing bump to the desired length.

Congratulations! You've successfully tied the KF Emerger Midge pattern. This fly is highly versatile and effective, especially during Midge hatches or when fishing in tailwaters. Experiment with different colors like gray or chocolate to match the hatch.
