Featuring : tightlinevideo

The Craft Fur Clouser – an effective saltwater fly pattern perfect for beginners and seasoned anglers alike.

In this guide, we'll take you through the step-by-step process of tying this fly that's known for its ability to entice a wide range of saltwater and fresshwater species.

Let's get started and enhance your success on the water with this proven pattern!

Materials Needed:

  1. Hook: Saltwater streamer hook, sizes 2 to 6.

  2. Eyes: Dumbbell or lead dumbbell eyes, appropriate size for the hook.

  3. Thread: Strong thread, 3/0 to 6/0 in a suitable color (e.g., white, chartreuse).

  4. Body: Craft fur or synthetic hair in desired colors (e.g., white, chartreuse, pink).

  5. Flash: Flashabou or similar flashy material.

  6. Wing: Craft fur or synthetic hair in contrasting colors.

  7. Adhesive: Superglue or UV resin.

Step 1: Secure the Hook

Secure the hook in the vise and start wrapping the thread about one-third of the hook shank from the hook eye to create a thread base.

Step 2: Attach the Eyes

Position the dumbbell eyes on top of the hook shank, leaving a small gap between the eyes and the hook eye. Secure the eyes in place by wrapping the thread around them and making several tight wraps crisscrossing over the eyes.

Step 3: Tie in the Body

Take a small clump of craft fur or synthetic hair and tie it in at the base of the hook shank, just behind the dumbbell eyes. Trim the excess material so that it extends slightly past the hook bend.

Step 4: Add Flash (Optional)

Tie in a few strands of flashabou or similar flashy material on top of the body material for added attraction. Trim the flash to the desired length, usually slightly longer than the body material.

Step 5: Form the Wing

Select another clump of craft fur or synthetic hair in a contrasting color to the body material. Tie it in on top of the hook shank, just in front of the dumbbell eyes. Trim the excess material so that it extends to about the length of the body.

Step 6: Secure and Finish

Wrap the thread around the wing material and dumbbell eyes to secure them in place. Make several tight wraps to ensure everything is firmly attached. Finish the fly by making a few whip finishes behind the dumbbell eyes.

Step 7: Apply Adhesive

Apply a small amount of superglue or UV resin to the thread wraps securing the dumbbell eyes and the thread head. This will add extra durability to the fly and ensure the materials stay in place during fishing.

Step 8: Final Touches

Trim any excess material to give the fly a clean, streamlined profile. Your Craft Fur Clouser is now complete and ready to tempt a wide variety of saltwater species, including striped bass, bluefish, and redfish!
