In the wild rivers of Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, Trout Unlimited (TU) is working to remove migration barriers, reconnect floodplains, and restore critical habitats for wild salmon and steelhead populations that are on the brink of extinction.

Through collaboration with federal and state agencies, regional tribes, and the Cold Water Connection Campaign, TU has identified the most up to date restoration projects for this amazing piece of water, by replacing culverts that block fish passage and bringing back essential log jams to the tributaries, ensuring safe passage for native fish to jpurney to their spawning grounds.

Thanks to federal funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), along with state and private support, TU is expanding restoration efforts. These projects not only will help rebuild wild salmon and steelhead runs which have been in a serious state of decline  but also will provide economic benefits to local communities by creating jobs and fortifying road systems to withstandour ever changing climate
