How to tie: a Perdigon Rainbow Warrior Nymph
With: Fly Fish Food
Today we're going to show you how to tie the Rainbow Warrior Paragon—an updated and more durable version of the classic Rainbow Warrior. This fly sinks faster and is perfect for a variety of fishing situations
Materials:
Hook: Size 18 Aqua 400 X Series (Jig Hook)
Bead: Hanak 2.5 mm Slotted Silver
Thread: 70 Denier Red
Tail: Medium or Dark Pardo Coq de Leon
Body: Large Viva Tinsel
Resin: UV Resin (Loon Flow or your favorite brand)
UV Light: Loon Infinity Light or similar
Steps:
Start the Thread:
Begin by placing your hook in the vise. Start your 70 Denier red thread right behind the bead and wrap it back towards the bend of the hook. This helps avoid any tie-in bump at the back.
Add the Tail:
Select a few fibers of Coq de Leon (medium or dark pardo). Capture these fibers on the hook and trim any excess. Wrap the thread back up to the bead.
Wrap the Tinsel:
Take the large Viva tinsel and secure it behind the bead. Wrap it down the shank of the hook until you reach the tail, then wrap it back up to the bead, covering the thread. Trim the tinsel as close as possible.
Create the Hot Spot:
Use the red thread to create a small hot spot right behind the bead. Whip finish the thread to secure it.
Apply UV Resin:
Apply a small amount of UV resin (Loon Flow or similar) over the body to cover the thread and tinsel, creating a smooth, tapered body. Use the top of the resin nozzle to spread it out evenly.
Cure the Resin:
Rotate the fly to hold the resin in position and then zap it with the UV light (Loon Infinity Light recommended). This will quickly cure the resin and harden it.
Clean the Eye:
If any resin accidentally gets into the hook eye, use a small tool or hook to clean it out.
