How to Tie: Light Bright Paradigm (Pink Style)

This guide walks you through tying the Light Bright Paradigm in a fluorescent pink style, as demonstrated by Upstream Fly Guy. Perfect for spring and summer fishing, this pattern doubles as an effective point fly for Euro nymphing rigs.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Prepare the Hook and Bead:

  • Use a size 16 jig hook (Hanek 450 recommended).

  • Attach a 2.8mm gold tungsten bead head.

2. Start the Thread Base:

  • Use light pink thread (e.g., Semperfly) to build a thin, even base on the hook shank. Avoid excessive wraps.

3. Tie in the Tail:

  • Select 4–5 Coq de León fibers for the tail.

  • Pinch-wrap them at the hook bend and trim any excess. Secure with thread wraps, ensuring a slim body profile.

4. Add the Flash:

  • Insert a piece of UV pink crystal flash into the bead head. Secure it with a couple of wraps.

  • Wind the thread back down to the tail and then forward, covering the crystal flash and creating a slight taper toward the bead.

5. Wrap the Crystal Flash:

  • Manually wrap the crystal flash around the body for the first two wraps.

  • For subsequent wraps, overlap each turn slightly (half on previous, half on new material).

  • Secure the flash near the bead and trim any excess.

6. Change Thread for the Hot Spot:

  • Tie off the light pink thread with a whip finish.

  • Switch to fluorescent pink thread to create a contrasting hot spot near the bead.

  • Secure the thread with super glue for durability and whip finish.

7. Add Nail Polish (Optional):

  • Apply nail polish to the bead head, focusing on filling the slot and building a smooth finish.

8. Final Resin Coat:

  • Apply a thin layer of UV resin (e.g., Solarez Bone Dry) over the body for durability and a glossy finish.

  • Use a UV light to cure for 5–10 seconds.
