How to tie a : Green Caddis Larva
From: tightlinevideo
Today, tightlinevideo is tying a simple yet effective Green Caddisfly Larvae pattern. This fly imitates the Hydra Psycho Net Spinners, and while you could go wild with details, the simpler patterns often perform best. Rusty brown is a great alternative to green, so don’t hesitate to experiment
Materials:
Hook: Size 14 #125 deRicky Emerger Hook (size 16 is also effective)
Thread: UTC 70 Denier in Brown
Weight: 0.015" Lead-Free Wire
Ribbing: Fluorescent Chartreuse Ultra Wire (Brassy size)
Dubbing: Australian Possum (Light Olive for the body, Dark Brown for the thorax)
Adhesive: Zap-A-Gap Super Glue
Steps:
Add the Weight:
Apply a small drop of super glue to the middle of the hook shank using a bodkin.
Wrap 6-7 turns of lead-free wire around the glued area. Use your thumbnail to trim the excess.
Start the Thread:
Secure your thread behind the weight and wrap towards the bend of the hook.
Attach the Ribbing:
Cut a 6-inch length of chartreuse Ultra Wire. Secure it along the shank and wrap the thread down the hook’s curve to shape the body.
Form the Body:
Lightly dub your thread with light olive Australian possum. Avoid overloading the dubbing.
Wrap the dubbing evenly up the shank, stopping just before the weight.
Wrap the Ribbing:
Tightly wrap the Ultra Wire in open turns up the body to create segmentation. Secure the wire at the top and twist to break off the excess.
Create the Thorax:
Dub the thread with dark brown Australian possum. Start wrapping at the hook eye, working back slightly over the green, then return to the eye.
Finish the Fly:
Whip finish and cut the thread. Brush out the dubbing to mimic legs and gills. Trim any stray fibers as needed.
Now you’re ready to fish! Keep this versatile pattern handy in both green and rusty brown.
